What Does A Programming Language (APL) Mean?

A Programming Language (APL) was first described by Kenneth E. Iverson in the first edition of A Language (APL). More specifically, APL is an interactive, interpreted third-generation language aimed at streamlining the expression of mathematical notations by a computer in an interpretive manner.

The APL programming language's brief representation of arrays and operators is manipulated in a way that allows for the formulation of abstract problem solving. 

It also does this from a variety of domains and expresses algorithms independently from programming platforms specifics. APL is available as a part of integrated development environments (IDE) by many commercial and non-commercial vendors.

Before it got the name APL, Iverson's Language was known as just a language.

APL is often used in mathematics, scientific research, data visualization, engineering, robotics, and actuarial science. The APL character set is made unique to the programming language. Iverson stated that this creates a notation function in the APL language unlike any other character set.

Accordingly, array notation (APL) has remarkable power because primitive tokers use symbols to represent functions that are grouped together. However, APL's appeal to finance, insurance and mathematical applications is relatively small.
